And it wasn’t just a copy of the Golf R, would it have a VRT or the Audi 2.5?

Every transverse-engine car deserves the Audi 2.5.

Why do you think humans have five digits per hand?

Why is the 5th one of the fundamental harmonies in music?

Why do the wheels have 5 lugs?

5 spokes?

Why does “Jetta” have 5 letters?

This all points to a 5-cylinder engine. It’s just the perfect 5th.

4pot turbo is fine... Audi wouldn’t give em the 2.5 under any circumstance.

What about a VRT? Call me old-school, but part of me feels like a hot Jetta should be carrying 6 cylinders.

You make a compelling argument... I do wonder if MQB would allow for such an engine, if so, how would the power be routed?

I never liked the Jetta, but I remember a few years back VW showed a v6 awd version that made me go nuts... I think they never produced it though

It’d have the 2.0TSI engine from the Passat and Arteon with 280 horsepowers. Given the MQB platform it could have 4motion.

However, the US Jetta is a budget driven volume sedan solely for the US market...so it probably won’t.

A W6 engine (basically half of a W12) with twin turbos.

I can see the rest of the world getting a hot Jetta, at the very least a GLI with the GTI’s powertrain. And then maybe a special edition dialed up a bit to, say, Leon Cupra levels. The US just needs to be thankful the 2.slow is finally dead (until it gets revived again).

Regardless of engine, it won’t happen because the S3 is a thing and there’s already a little bit of a problem with the Golf R cannibalizing sales of the S3, if what the people at VW were telling me is to be believed.

That said, I really, really want VW to get a performance car of their own that isn’t another damn hatch.
